If you had asked me ten years ago if I was interested in women’s health, health education, and birth work, the answer would have been a resounding “no.” I always wanted to have kids of my own, but the medical field didn’t hold much appeal for me. But after struggling with my own health issues, including unexplained infertility, and with sisters that lived far away, I realized that I might never get to be part of a birth experience. It wasn’t until my sister-in-law, who is a Certified Professional Midwife and a Licensed Midwife, started her own practice that I realized I could be part of a birth experience in a helpful and healthy way.

I began studying and working towards becoming a birth assistant with her practice, Genesis Midwifery, and also began working with midwives in Mason and Manistee county in March of 2022. I attended my first birth in June of 2022 and was hooked. My personal goal now is to continue my exposure to birth work as a doula and continue my education to eventually become a Certified Professional Midwife in Michigan. In the spring of 2024 I also began assisting the team at Full Circle Birth Center in Muskegon.

I believe that every birth should be happy, healthy, and holy. I want to see each mama transformed through the birthing process and more certain of the goodness of God, of the abilities of her body, and her God-given instincts as a mother. I believe this is possible because I believe that birth is a sacred and set-apart time where God is especially near and in the birth of new life, we see the Giver of Life. I trust birth because I trust His design for birth, I trust his design for our bodies, and I trust His design for families.

My husband and I live on my family’s homestead in Oceana County with our two dogs. We have 20 nieces and nephews, whom we love very much, and who keep us busy outside of work!
